An inclusive greenhouse for young people in Jesús de Machaca

Main objective

To help improve the living conditions, independence and socio-economic inclusion of pupils with disabilities at the Special Education School, through the development of suitable productive infrastructure and agroecological training activities.

Description

Achievements
– The five greenhouses and the nursery have been fully refurbished and are now operational for the production of vegetables, organic compost and forest seedlings.
– The infrastructure now supports agroecological practices tailored to the students’ varying abilities.
– The active involvement of indigenous authorities, teachers and families has strengthened a sustainable community model.
– Implementation of drip irrigation systems and improved water management.
– Indigenous authorities contributed through community labour: assembling structures, reinforcing timber, and installing polycarbonate sheeting.

Results exceeding expectations
– Neighbours’ growing interest in the infrastructure has strengthened community ownership.
– The project’s success opens up the possibility of a future legal transfer of the land to the Special Education School.
