According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), there are an estimated 11.7 million refugees, 38 million internally displaced persons and 400,000 returnees in the world.

Humanitarian aid helps thousands of these people regain control of their lives and their communities. This includes safety from being returned to danger, access to fair and efficient asylum procedures, and measures to ensure that their basic human rights are respected while they secure a longer-term solution.
