Development in Senegal

TSF takes an integrated approach to development that focuses on young people and the most vulnerable individuals in rural areas of Senegal. Its initiatives combine a range of expertises that aim to create an environment conducive to school retention, entrepreneurship and access to healthcare services. By strengthening infrastructure, local capacities and community engagement, TSF supports sustainable, inclusive and equitable pathways, particularly for girls and young mothers. This vision is based on close collaboration with local stakeholders and strong community ownership of the actions undertaken.

Access to education for girls

TSF works to improve school retention rates among children and young people, particularly girls. Its initiatives aim to improve learning conditions through appropriate school infrastructure, access to teaching materials, digital resources and school transport. Academic support, tutoring, ongoing teacher training and community engagement promote educational success. Particular attention is paid to the inclusion of girls and student mothers, in order to remove the barriers preventing them from remaining in the education system.

Food security, nutrition and community resilience

Food security is seen as a key driver of academic success and community well-being. TSF supports the establishment of school canteens backed by an organic school garden, promoting access to healthy and regular meals for pupils. Local production, training in agroecology and the involvement of women’s groups strengthen food self-sufficiency. By combining agricultural production, nutrition awareness and community engagement, TSF helps to bring about lasting improvements in the health, concentration and living conditions of children and their families.

School, maternal and community health

TSF’s initiatives incorporate health as a key factor in young people’s educational journey and development. Targeted initiatives in the areas of eye health, maternal and child health, hygiene and psychosocial well-being are implemented for students, young mothers and families. Awareness-raising, screening, psychosocial support and the involvement of local professionals help to prevent health issues that could affect academic success. This holistic approach fosters a healthy environment conducive to learning and the personal development of young people.

Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship is a complementary focus aimed at strengthening the economic independence of families, particularly women. TSF supports the development of income-generating activities, notably in agriculture, the processing of local produce and small-scale retail. Training, the formation of groups and the establishment of community savings schemes support this initiative. By strengthening households’ economic capacity, these actions help to ensure children’s educational pathways and contribute to sustainable community development.

Local governance

TSF places local governance and community ownership at the heart of its work. Each project relies on the strong involvement of local stakeholders: local authorities, government technical departments, community leaders, management committees and participants. TSF supports the establishment of effective governance structures, builds capacity in management, maintenance and monitoring, and ensures a gradual handover of responsibilities. This approach promotes the long-term sustainability of infrastructure, empowers communities and ensures that initiatives are firmly rooted in local dynamics.

Construction and refurbishment of infrastructure

TSF has developed recognised expertise in the construction and refurbishment of social infrastructure, particularly in the water, education, health and local economy sectors. Projects prioritise the refurbishment of existing structures in order to minimise environmental impact and optimise resources. The work is carried out to rigorous technical standards, under the supervision of qualified engineers, in collaboration with local contractors. TSF also ensures that access to water, hygiene, safety and sustainability are integrated from the design stage of the projects.
