Purchase of laboratory equipment for Pucarani Hospital
Equip the laboratory at the secondary-level hospital in Pucarani with the necessary equipment to carry out high-quality tests.
The municipality of Pucarani has one municipal hospital in the process of obtaining Level 2 accreditation, and 11 Level 1 health centres. Although the municipality has a population of around 28,000, Pucarani Hospital serves as a referral centre for five neighbouring communities that do not have such services. These communities have a combined population of around 52,000. With the growing population and as the only municipal hospital in the area, the demand for clinical tests is constantly increasing. Due to a lack of equipment in the laboratory, there are delays in the processes and the results are not 100% reliable. This leads to a decrease in the number of tests carried out year on year and forces this already vulnerable population to travel to the city to access this service, resulting in delays or a failure to diagnose or monitor illnesses.
Thanks to the laboratory’s equipment, the service has been enhanced from start to finish. It complies with current national health regulations and operates on a three-stage basis: the pre-analytical stage, which includes the request and prescription of the test, patient preparation, sample collection, and transport to and within the laboratory. This is followed by the analytical stage, which consists of carrying out the analyses. Finally, the post-analytical stage, where review and interpretation take place, along with the validation of results, the generation of the final report, and the storage of samples. All these stages are essential for obtaining reliable and accurate results. These results will provide information on the health of the municipal population and may lead to community awareness campaigns on the most common diseases affecting the population, particularly chronic and infectious diseases.
