Local Initiatives Support Programme

Main objective

To enhance the socio-economic prosperity of rural communities

Description

Between 2019 and 2024, the program aimed to support rural communities in becoming self-reliant through a four-phase community development model (initiation, adaptation, ownership, consolidation and empowerment) so that they could meet their own social, economic, educational and health needs. The program was based on five components: local development, literacy and education, sexual and nutritional health, microfinance, and rural and peri-urban entrepreneurship.

Implemented in 37 partner villages, the project strengthened local capacities, community governance and economic initiatives, particularly those led by women and young people. Health interventions focused on raising awareness and improving people’s knowledge of sexual and nutritional health.

The program adopted a participatory approach, with annual reviews and farmers’ forums to assess progress and adjust activities, thereby fostering sustainable ownership by the communities.
