Building the agricultural capacity of the people of the Altiplano
To boost the capacity for growing fruit and vegetables in greenhouses and promote greater dietary diversity among local residents
Supply of equipment
– Two portable equipment kits for nutrition interventions, including scales, a height-for-age chart, a pulse oximeter and stethoscopes, were distributed in the municipalities of Ayata and Escoma.
– Equipment for nutrition clinics, including scales, blood pressure monitors and office furniture, was also distributed to strengthen the health centres in Jesús de Machaca and Pucarani.
Agricultural support
In terms of agricultural production, the TSF team upgraded two greenhouses in the municipality of Pucarani by installing an irrigation system and distributing fruit and vegetable seeds. The municipality of Viacha also benefited from the distribution of seeds, as well as the refurbishment of a greenhouse. In addition, the TSF team was able to provide several training sessions for producers.
Entrepreneurship
– Two UTANIs have been set up in the municipalities of Viacha and Escoma. The Viacha UTANI is fully operational, whilst the Escoma UTANI is awaiting the appointment of a nutritionist, for whom recruitment is currently underway for Year 2.
– Four UTANIs have had their equipment upgraded to enable them to offer more workshops in the municipalities of Pucarani, Ayata, Puerto Perez and Jesus de Machaca. No fewer than 130 people have taken part in cookery training courses.
