Pillars

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Sustainable development is an approach that tackles the main causes of poverty and fosters the autonomy of communities and the people who live in them. As described by the United Nations (UN), sustainable development ‘meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’.

Sustainable development is based on a process that identifies the problems specific to local communities, mobilises them and involves them in finding solutions adapted to their social and development context, and then implements action plans with the best chances of success. The ultimate goal is to create prosperity, with all its attendant benefits, including good governance, health, autonomy and sustainability.

HUMANITARIAN AID

Humanitarian aid is used to support people who are experiencing a major crisis so that they can regain their dignity and peace.

Every year, Terre Sans Frontières implements numerous humanitarian aid projects. Our teams on the ground are able to mobilise rapidly in several areas, including health, education, access to water, sanitation and hygiene promotion, food security, nutrition, protection and shelter.

VOLUNTEER COOPERATION

Voluntary cooperation is the third pillar on which Terre Sans Frontières is based. It aims to strengthen our actions in the field of development and humanitarian aid.

Thanks to TSF’s local and permanent teams, our field offices and our programmes that are well established in the beneficiary populations, the volunteers – always eager for concrete results – can move into action quickly, transfer their knowledge and expertise, and then pass it on to the target populations.
