Faced with multiple and protracted humanitarian crises, TSF responds with a sense of urgency that goes beyond a one-off response. The ability to rapidly assess situations, mobilise resources and adapt to changing circumstances enables TSF to effectively address immediate needs. By working closely with local partners, coherent and tailored responses are ensured. At the same time, recovery and prevention strategies are put in place to enhance the safety of operations and support communities facing recurring and multidimensional crises.
A rapid, coordinated and high-impact response
TSF stands out for the speed and efficiency of its assessment and response. Thanks to a proactive and highly qualified team, which has in-depth knowledge of the field and works closely with local communities, damage is assessed rapidly and interventions with a direct, high-impact effect are coordinated. Combining short-, medium- and long-term actions, TSF ensures a tailored, flexible and reliable response, supported by a network of trusted local partners and stakeholders. Immediate needs are addressed whilst a response and prevention plans are developed and implemented.
Food security and nutrition, water and sanitation
In a crisis situation, TSF’s primary concern is to ensure immediate access to food and drinking water for affected communities. Drawing on its proven expertise in food supply and water management, the distribution of emergency food parcels with high nutritional value is rapidly organized. These include food, drinking water and hygiene products, selected to meet the essential needs of families, particularly mothers and children, and to enable them to survive for nearly a month while awaiting the restoration of basic services.
Social cohesion, violence prevention and community safety
TSF’s social stabilization program plays a direct role in ensuring the safety of its operations and movements in the outskirts of the capital, where insecurity remains a persistent issue. By addressing essential needs identified in consultation with local communities – notably access to clean water, education and youth activities – TSF establishes spaces recognised as neutral and beneficial. This relationship of trust reduces tensions, minimises risks and enables teams to operate and move around continuously, even in the context of armed violence.
Sustainable reconstruction and resilient infrastructure
Following the 2010 earthquake, TSF carried out a major reconstruction program focused on sustainable and safe infrastructure. The team oversaw the construction and refurbishment of school and healthcare buildings, as well as the development of drinking water supply systems. The infrastructure, built to earthquake- and cyclone-resistant standards, was among the structures that remained functional during the 2021 earthquake, demonstrating the relevance and durability of TSF’s work. Furthermore, the buildings now serve as community shelters in the event of severe weather. The team’s reputation was established locally following these interventions and remains a benchmark in the field to this day.
Risk management and response to climate shocks
TSF responds swiftly to climate-related disasters to meet the urgent needs of affected communities. The team’s ability to mobilise enables the rapid deployment of targeted aid that addresses immediate needs whilst state or community services are being restored. Mobile clinics are set up to treat the injured, ensure access to essential medicines and strengthen prevention through hygiene awareness. TSF prioritises children, the elderly and pregnant women, whilst supporting health facilities that are often overwhelmed.
Community health and epidemic risk management
In the event of an outbreak of epidemic diseases, such as cholera, TSF rapidly adapts its response to limit the spread of the disease and protect the most vulnerable communities. Mobile clinics are deployed to provide community-based care, distribute essential medicines and support overwhelmed health facilities. The teams also strengthen prevention efforts through hygiene awareness sessions, the promotion of safe hygiene practices and training in the use of oral rehydration solution, thereby helping to reduce the risks of complications and transmission.
