Capacity building in oral health

The objective of this mandate is to continue support in strengthening the individual and organizational capacities of partners in the sector of dentistry through clinical support and training.

OBJECTIVES

General objectives
– Diagnosis and basic interventions (extractions, restorations, etc.);
– Training on the use, sterilization and maintenance of equipment
– Update of memory sheets for patient follow-up, use of equipment, follow-up of consultations and treatment stages;
– Clinical follow-up after training;
– Promotion of services and activities to raise awareness of the importance of dental follow-ups in the community, as well as in some secondary schools;

Goals at Huruma Hospital
– Provide training on various aspects of dental hygiene technique and prevention, follow-up on the client approach, offer support in emergency care and provide endodontic and orthodontic care.

Goals at Kibosho Hospital
– Provide training on endodontic treatment using rotary instruments, use of endodontic apex locator, application of rubber dams in final treatment, periodontal examination and treatment, atraumatic restorative treatment (ART), orthodontic and prosthodontic treatment.
– Supply of materials as needed.

NUMBER OF VOLUNTEER AND OCCUPATIONS

3 volunteers 

– 1 dentist
– 1 hygienist
– 1 orthodontist

REQUIREMENTS AND SKILLS

Prerequisites

Member in good standing of the Order of Dentists of Quebec (ODQ)
Member in good standing of the Order of Dental Hygienists of Quebec (OHDQ)

Work experience

5+ years of practice experience 

Experience in international cooperation

Previous experience an asset

Work language

Oral and written English at intermediate level.

Mandatory meetings

Before departure, TSF organizes pre-departure meetings and training at its offices (in person or virtually) in order to prepare the volunteers, as well as a meeting upon return, for a return assessment. These meetings are mandatory for the smooth running of the mandate.
