In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), bush clinics do not generally have the necessary resources to treat the seriously ill and injured.
In several cases, the life of these patients depends on them being evacuated to referral hospitals, which are equipped to provide specialized health services. In the Haut-Uélé province, Avions Sans Frontières (ASF) has been playing a prominent role to this effect for more than 25 years now. Indeed, the airplane is the fastest means of transport to evacuate the seriously ill and injured, particularly in this landlocked region where the roads are hardly practicable and unsafe. Over the past year, ASF’s Cessna 206 managed to evacuate 28 people for medical emergencies. This project was made possible by the financial support of the Roncalli International Foundation.
